Additional Practices and Policies

Homework

If there is a home work assignment for the day, I will send it home in the daily folder. Students should never have more than 30mins of homework per night. All work that I send home for them to complete as homework will be practice or review of lessons we have covered in class. At no time will I send your child home with extensive amount of homework or something that is new or foreign to them. If no homework is sent home in the daily folder, please have your student read or read to your student for at least 20mins. This will help increase their word recognition and language skills. Readers are leaders!

Late Work

I understand that, on occasion, students may have issues arise at home or at school that prevent them from getting their work done on time. I will still accept late work after the due date. There will be a 5pt. penalty per day that the work is late. However, I know that life happens! This is why I have decided to implement the “Aww Shucks!” This is a one-time pass for late work that the student can use at any time, for any assignment, that will take away late penalties on that assignment.

Tardiness

I will be following the school rules for tardiness as explained in the student handbook. However, I encourage my students to arrive on time and prepared for the day. Establishing healthy punctuality habits, now, will set them up for success in the future!

Grade Checks

I know that your student’s progress is important to you! I will be happy to discuss your child’s grades, progress, and your concerns with their academics during office hours or after school. Please refer to my contact information for such times. I would like to add, however, that grades, while reflective of learning and academic progress, are not a total picture of your child. Grades do not show how sweet your child is, or how friendly, or how polite and responsible they are. Grades are only one aspect of your child’s total package.
